Two die from rig fall

Kuala Lumpur: Ensco has confirmed two oil rig workers were killed in an accident on Saturday onboard the Ensco 104 rig chartered to SapuraKencana off Malaysia.

The two workers were carrying out routine inspection work when the safety harness attached to a lifeboat broke, causing both to fall some 35 m and suffer fatal head injuries.

"We are extremely saddened by the deaths of two crew members during the weekend aboard Ensco 104, a jackup drilling rig operating offshore Malaysia," the rig contractor said in a statement.

The incident happened 152 nautical miles off Kerteh beach in the Kemaman district of the eastern state of Terengganu at 11.04pm local time on Saturday.  [22/10/14]
