Manila’s congestion woes stir debate

Manila: Shippers continue to voice their displeasure at congestion at ports in the Philippine capital, saying it is making exports uncompetitive.

Sergio Ortiz-Luis, president of the Philippine Exporters Confederation (PhilExport), told local media congestion at terminals in Manila has reached “110% of capacity”. Urgent remedies are needed, he said.

Robert Amores, president of the Philippine Food Processors and Exporters Organization (PhilFoodex), said shipments should normally be cleared out within 72 hours. But with the congestion, clearance sometimes takes 15 to 30 days.  [24/07/14]
