Bunkering poll makes clear the huge challenges facing shipping

Singapore: The future of bunkering will remain very challenging for shipowners, early results from a poll carried out by this site show. With SeaShip News debuting a bunkering magazine in time for this October’s big bunkering meet-up, Sibcon in Singapore, we launched an online survey a month ago. The survey, which has already seen 243 people vote and leave comments, will close in two weeks time.

In the history of all the surveys carried by SeaShip News and its sister titles, none has offered such one-sided decisions as a number of questions posed in this vote. On the question asking how ready shipping is for ECAs, close to 96% of respondents so far say the industry is struggling to be ready for this seismic shift in maritime transport. Similarly, some 83% of voters so far feel that the availability of compliant fuel will be a concern moving forwards.

Results of the vote will be made available in SeaShip News’s brand new bunkering magazine due out in October.

SeaShip News’s Singapore Bunkering Market Report 2014 will look at Singapore’s position within world bunkering as well as all the latest technology associated with the sector including mass flow meters, and how low sulphur fuels will change world shipping.
