Land freed up across Manila to handle box congestion

Manila: Containers are beginning to stack up all over the capital of the Philippines as authorities try and handle the port congestion issue.

To ease the congestion, customs-cleared overstaying cargo will move to a 10.6 ha lot at the Cultural Center of the Philippines complex in the heart of the city.

Also lined up are at least 36 ha of off-dock facilities to park empty container vans - 5 ha near the Cavitex toll gate; 9 ha between the IRS Eastern depot and the Philippine Economic Zone Authority; a 4 ha depot in Malvar, Batangas; 5 ha within the Asian Terminal facility in Calamba, Laguna; a planned 6 ha property of ICTSI in Cabuyao and 2 ha in North Harbor.

Meanwhile, a series of containerline calls sweeping up containers continues to call at both Manila ports.  [11/08/14]
