Bangkok: The PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC) oil spill may well be worse than originally feared. With authorities and PTTGC both claiming the accident had been cleaned up satellite images would suggest otherwise with a thick black smudge on the ocean heading northeast to coral reefs and coastal farms in Rayong province. Authorities said yesterday the first slick had washed up on the Rayong mainland.
Emergency response authorities battled throughout the past weekend as oil gushed from a single mooring point where a tanker was sending oil to a pipeline. About 50,000 litres of crude oil spilled into the sea about 20 km southeast of the Map Ta Phut industrial estate. (01/08/13)
